Holy Inconvenient: Ignatian Spirituality As Lived By Jesuit Saint Alberto Hurtado

Join us on February 6, 2024 in the Kilker Learning Commons at Rockhurst High School from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.!

Fr. Bill Sheahan, SJ, will lead the next installment of the Ignatian Speaker Series, which began in the fall of 2022. His talk is called "Holy Inconvenient: Ignatian Spirituality As Lived By Jesuit Saint Alberto Hurtado" and
will review the significant events of Fr. Hurtado’s life, including how an unexpected, late-night encounter with an ill, homeless man refocused his ministry, resulting in St. Alberto’s founding of Hogar de Cristo, an education and training program to serve street children in Santiago, Chile. Fr. Sheahan will discuss how St. Alberto’s lived example illustrates key themes in Ignatian spirituality, including that of “the Magis,” being a “contemplative-in-action,” etc.

Fr. Sheahan is the Rector of Ciszek Hall Jesuit Residential College at Fordham University (Bronx, NY), a First Studies program for Jesuits in formation to be Jesuit priests and Jesuit brothers. He was Rector of the St. Peter Claver Jesuit Community in Kansas City from 2016-2021.  Fr. Sheahan served in various capacities at Rockhurst High School from 2008–2021, including as Interim President in 2017-18.  With former Rockhurst Principal Gregory Harkness, Fr. Sheahan co-founded the Rockhurst High School Hurtado Scholars Program in 2012. He holds master degrees in Public Administration, in Divinity, and in Education with secondary education English teaching certification.
