The Alumni Association Volunteer Program honors each alumnus who commits himself to the school by offering opportunities that celebrate different strengths, abilities, and contributions. BOARD OF GOVERNORS
Lead Ambassador: Frank Allen ’05
The Alumni Association is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Governors comprised of members duly nominated and elected in accordance with the provisions of the Alumni Association By-laws. The election and number of members shall be determined by the Board of Governors at its Annual Meeting after considering the recommendations of the Nominating Committee. Each Alumni Board member will serve a term of three (3) years and may not serve more than two consecutive terms.

Individual Class Representatives are needed to speak on behalf of Rockhurst High School in your efforts to promote alumni engagement from members of your class.
ALUMNI SOCCER MATCH
Lead Ambassador: Thomas Knox ’88
Soccer Hawklets of all ages are invited to play in The Rock’s annual Alumni Soccer Match during the fall. Alumni Leadership Volunteers are needed to coordinate and manage the event.
ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR AWARD
Lead Ambassador: Lawrence “Larry” Egan ’81
The Alumnus of the Year Award is presented to a person who honors the spirit, mission and vision of the Society of Jesus through his dedication to be a “man for others” with continuing service to Rockhurst High School and the community by making significant contributions of time, talent and treasure. The Award is named after the Very Rev. Pedro Arrupe, SJ, who was Superior General of the Society of Jesus from 1965 to 1983, and coined the phrase “men for others.” The Award is presented at the school’s annual Homecoming Mass in the fall. A Selection Committee is needed to manage the process of naming the Alumnus of the Year.
ALUMNI BREAKFAST SERIES

The Alumni Breakfast Series has become one of the Alumni Association’s more popular events, featuring speakers who discuss a wide range of interesting topics. Volunteers are needed to coordinate and manage the quarterly events.
REV. LUKE J. BYRNE, SJ
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD AND BREAKFAST
Lead Ambassador: Lawrence “Larry” Egan ’81
Rev. Luke J. Byrne, SJ, ’52 is one of the most beloved figures in Rockhurst High School history. A faith-filled Servant of Christ, Fr. Byrne inspired all alumni to live the Jesuit ideal of being a “man for others,” and modeled those values in the life he led. He served as President of Rockhurst High School from 1975 to 1980 and established the school’s Alumni Association during that time. The Distinguished Alumnus Award was created in Fr. Byrne’s memory and will be presented annually to a Rockhurst High School graduate whose life exemplifies in an exceptional way the religious, academic and social values set before him during his years as a student and whose outstanding qualities in spiritual and civic leadership have won for him the respect, confidence and affection of the community. Volunteers are needed to manage the selection process and the inaugural special event.
GRAND ALUMNI REUNION WEEKEND
Lead Ambassador: Gus Sonnenberg ’90
The Grand Alumni Reunion Weekend is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to remember, renew, reconnect, and refresh with classmates as they return to The Rock. There are class parties, campus tours, continuing education opportunities, celebration of our faith, and much more. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate the Grand Reunion during the fall of 2022. All alumni are welcome, with special guest classes ending in either a “2” or a “7.”

Values commonly found in Ignatian spirituality are core values of the Gospel, such as authenticity, integrity, courage, love, forgiveness, hope, healing, service and justice. Rockhurst High School alumni are called to seek these noble ideals throughout their lives. Volunteers are needed to explore and develop activities that bring our fellow alumni closer to God. AMDG
KELLEY WILSON BBQ
Lead Ambassador: William “Billy” Hodes ’02
The Kelley Wilson BBQ is held the first weekend of June each year and has become one of Rockhurst High School’s most popular events. The BBQ was established in memory of M. Kelley Wilson ’92 by his classmates to fund tuition assistance grants at Rockhurst High School. The two-day festival of food is one of the region’s most competitive barbecue contests and a great time for everyone who attends. The KWBBQ is a sanctioned Kansas City BBQ Society activity.
Rev. Mario T. Puricelli, SJ, was Rockhurst High School’s first Alumni Director. “Fr. Purch’s” spirit lives on in his annual Spaghetti Dinner as a “friend-raiser” for the institution. Come see classmates, family members, and meet other alumni during this evening of Jesuit style camaraderie - Viva Italiano! In particular, The Rock invites alumni legacy families, including grandfathers, fathers, sons, uncles, cousins, to show their Hawklet Pride at this annual event.
SPORTS HALL OF FAME SELECTION COMMITTEE

Charged with the vital task of continuing to be certain that Sports Hall of Fame new honorees are the finest that Rockhurst High School’s athletic tradition has produced is the Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee. The Selection Committee consists of members with a unique knowledge and appreciation of the school’s athletic history. The Selection Committee will meet at the direction of the Committee Chairmen and as many times as deemed necessary to elect new members to the Sports Hall of Fame. The Philanthropy & Engagement Office recommends no fewer than two (2) and no more than six (6) annual honorees to be inducted into the Sports Hall each year.
ROCK CONNECT: NETWORKING FAIR
Lead Ambassador: Spencer Hardwick ’07
Open to alumni of Rockhurst High School who are looking for opportunities to connect with other graduates for to expand their business networks. Rock Connect will also offer “flash mentoring” when a collection of alumni can offer professional advice to current students thinking about the next steps for the education as a form of mentoring platform. Students can connect with alumni with relevant interests and experience.
ALUMNI STUDENT AMBASSADORS

Alumni Student Ambassadors are vital to Rockhurst High School’s admissions efforts. As representatives of The Rock, Alumni Ambassadors act as trusted advocates of our Jesuit mission and point-of-contacts for prospective students, their families, and the surrounding community. Alumni Ambassadors serve as on-site hospitality representatives during admissions events such as the annual Open House and Night at The Rock. They serve as “Parish Captains” in their home neighbors by hosting gatherings to promote the mission of Rockhurst High School and encourage grade school students to begin their journey toward becoming a Hawklets.

Alumni of all ages are encouraged to pull together teams and enjoy a day of Yard Games on the Al Davis, Jr. Field. This tournament is full of incredible takeout’s, clutch throws, and a whole lot of luck. It is a great way to share some laughs with friends and meet other Rockhurst Men. All participants have an opportunity to play every game and compete for their division championship. Division champs will move on to compete in a series of mini-challenges to determine who will be crowed the Overall Tournament Champion.
