Hawklet Alum Teaching Corps

Give Back To The Rock

A long-standing program at Jesuit high schools, the Alum Service Corps offered graduates of Jesuit high schools and Jesuit universities an opportunity to give back in gratitude for their Jesuit education by committing a year of service as faculty members in Jesuit middle or high schools. With the COVID-19 Pandemic and Province restructuring, the ASC shifted to individual schools running their own programs.

Beginning in 2026-27, Rockhurst High School started the Hawklet Alum Teaching Corps (HATC) for alumni of The Rock. Young alumni (less than three years post-college) are encouraged to apply to this program. These graduates are invited back to The Rock to give a year of service to their alma mater.

Members of the HATC will live in community and spend their year at Rockhurst teaching classes, helping with co-curricular activities (retreats, clubs, Pastoral, etc.) and athletics, and working with a mentor on their own individual formation.

If interested, please contact Anthony Re (are@rockhursths.edu) or Dr. Scott Reagan '99 (sreagan@rockhursths.edu).

Testimonials

"My year of volunteer work taught me several life lessons that I would be lost without today. I learned more about myself, God, and my role in the world. It brought me closer to family and friends, and ultimately imparted the skills of utility in the workplace, professionalism, and work management, all of which can be serviceable outside of the classroom and world of education."
-Ryan McAnany '12

"My time as a volunteer teacher at Rockhurst solidified my vocation as a Jesuit educator while allowing me to give back in thanksgiving for my own Jesuit education. I learned so much from my students and colleagues during my year of service, and now, a decade later, I am still so grateful for this life-changing experience and for the many, many Hawklets I have been blessed to work with."
-Anthony Re

"My time as an ASC volunteer was a life changing and fulfilling experience for me. It taught me so much about myself, my faith, and how to truly give back to a school community that had helped form me.  Over twenty years later, inspired by that year of teaching, service and formation at the Rock, I am still working in Jesuit education and grateful to be part of the RHS community."
-Scott Reagan '99

"My year of service to Rockhurst High School was an exceptionally fun and rewarding one.  It offered me a chance to get my toes wet in the life of a Jesuit high school which had been so formative for me as a student.  The impact that my high school teachers had on me was immeasurable and to make myself available to the Rockhurst community, desiring to be of similar service to these students and this community, made it so energizing."
-Matt Nickson

"My time volunteering was formative to my discernment in young adulthood.  Living and working with my fellow volunteer teachers helped me grow individually and professionally. We met for Mass, followed by dinner and conversation. It was during these conversations that discerning the profession of a teacher became clearer to me. I entered my year of service unsure of my life’s direction, and I left with a strong sense of God’s calling to education."

-Patrick Doyle '08

"My year of volunteer teaching was a truly life-altering opportunity. I found the year to be an excellent opportunity to discern what God was calling me to professionally and personally, while working in many aspects of the life of a school- in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in other co-curricular contexts. I was also enriched in the life of intentional community and prayer."
