Inclement Weather Information

In the event that Rockhurst needs to announce a closing or delay in the starting time of school due to inclement weather, we will communicate this information in a number of ways:

  1. A recorded message placed on the school's telephone system.
  2. A posting on our school website at www.rockhursths.edu.
  3. A RockAlert text message will be sent via TextCaster. If you have not already registered your mobile phone for RockAlerts Click HERE! to Sign-Up Now!
  4. An email will be sent to your student's Rockhurst High School Gmail address.
  5. The Broadcast Cooperative on School Closings: Participating this year are: KMBC, KCTV, WDAF, KSHB, and KMBZ TV stations.  Radio stations AM 980/KFKF, FM 94.1/KCUR, FM 89.3/KCKC, FM 102.1/KMXV, FM 93.3/KBEQ, FM 104.3/WDAF RADIO, and FM 106.5.  The information will also appear in The Kansas City Star.  (We will attempt to make every effort to contact the media by 5:30 a.m.--10:30 p.m. the night before, if possible.  Often, it takes up to 45 minutes to "make the air".  As has happened in the past, there are storm systems that don't cooperate with that timeline).
  • The safety of our students is of paramount concern to us; therefore, parents must use their own judgment about whether or not to send students to school if the weather is particularly bad in their local area. If you decide to keep your son home, please call the school by 8:30 a.m.
  • Finally, please remind your son that a 9:00 a.m. late start due to weather-related reasons is NOT time to “sleep in”. Rather, the time is provided for safer travel to school.
