Join us for summer afternoons of code, and see what software we can write together.

Calling all athletes! Our sports camps typically operate during the morning and end around noon. Rockhurst serves a make-it-yourself sandwich bar lunch in the cafeteria for $5 per day from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Pay as you go, or bring your own lunch.

Session 1: Computer Graphics, Animation, and Web Programming
Java and JavaScript:
Featuring Processing and P5.js from the Processing Foundation, this camp introduces campers to computer graphics and animation.

Campers will learn basic web development skills as they build simple game animations with P5.js javascript library.  Like the students in our classrooms, these campers will first learn to prototype computer drawings in Processing Java and later learn to translate these concepts into html5 canvas animations on the web.

With an emphasis on computer programming and managing a code base, this camp will only lightly touch on aspects of structuring and styling html pages.  Most of the time will be spent on animation algorithms and programming languages.  In the end, campers will create GitHub accounts, learn about GitHub Pages, and host static web pages featuring their Pg.js animations.

$95 - Two Weeks, June 4 - 14, Monday - Thursday, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Grades 5 - 12, boys and girls

Session 2: Python Programming: Raspberry Pi + Minecraft
A Light Introduction to programming in the Python language.

Campers spend the week learning basics of the Python programming language and apply it to the virtual 3D world of Minecraft Raspberry Pi edition.  The format is simple - learn a feature of the Python programming language, complete a code challenge in it, apply the skill in the context of a Minecraft world.

$50 - One week, June 18 - 21, Monday - Thursday, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Grades 5 - 12, boys and girls
Session 3: Hardware, Operating Systems, and Cyber Activity
Every year Rockhurst recycles used computer equipment.  This year we intercept a variety of used desktop computers taken out of commission from our classrooms.  Campers will completely disassemble and reassemble these used desktop computers as well as learn to install operating systems, specifically Windows and Ubuntu Desktop.  In addition to building a computer, campers will install essential software (web browser, document editor, antivirus) and learn a few basics of cybersecurity.

Campers who complete this session learn computer essentials from the perspective of a former systems administrator and computer science graduate.

$50 - One week, June 25 - 28, Monday - Thursday, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Grades 5 - 12, boys and girls
