Summer Camp: Model United Nations
The Rockhurst Model UN Summer Camp will provide students an opportunity to learn the basics of Model United Nations as well as learn new strategies and skills needed to improve their performance. This camp is both for students who have never participated in Model UN and also veterans who are looking to grow in the activity.
Session 1: Monday, June 5th- Thursday, June 8th
Session 2: Monday, June 12th- Thursday, June 15th

||Students entering grades 9-12, boys or girls
$100 per session
Day #1 will focus on a general introduction to the United Nations, including its purpose, structure, history, strengths, weaknesses, and achievements.
Day #2 will focus on researching and writing position papers.
Day #3 will focus on preparing for committee sessions, parliamentary procedure, caucusing, and writing resolutions.
Day #4 will culminate in an actual Model UN session in which students will represent an assigned country and debate an assigned topic.
The Rockhurst Model UN Summer Camp will be run by Rockhurst faculty member, Mr. Chris Elmore. Mr. Elmore has moderated the Rockhurst Model United Nations team for the past 20 years. During this time, Rockhurst has participated in a variety of Model UN competitions across North America, including conferences in Boston, Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Washington D.C. Rockhurst has won dozens of individual and/or team awards at these conferences. Over the past 10 years, Rockhurst has had three students recognized as the Most Outstanding Model UN student in the Kansas City Metro Area and Mr. Elmore was named the Outstanding Model UN Advisor in the Kansas City in 2006.
