Summer Camp: Football
Forty-Eighth Annual Hawklet Football Camp
Session I: June 27 - 29, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
Session III: July 18 - 20, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
The camp will be conducted by Rockhurst High School's football Coach Tony Severino. Coach Severino has won eight State Championships at Rockhurst, with a won/loss record of 318-81-1. He is the only coach to win State Championships in both Missouri and Kansas, having won at Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1981. Coach Severino's teams have qualified for State playoff competition 34 of the last 36 years, played in 13 State Championships and 19 State semifinals with record a of 361-102-1. Sixteen of Coach Severino's former players played College football in 2016, and six former players have gone on to play professional football. Coach Severino was the 2000 USA Today National Coach of the Year and 7-Time Missouri coach of the year.
Coach Severino and members of his coaching staff will teach the young player a working knowledge of the fundamentals and methods in football. NO PADS WILL BE USED. Boys will be placed in small groups according to their ability and age level. The camp will cover both offensive and defensive fundamentals with individual drills for each phase.
The following techniques of football will be covered during each session: Passing, Receiving, Running, Form Blocking, Form Tackling, Position Drills, Agility Drills, Punting, Kicking. and SAFETY ISSUES. Camps will run Tuesday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to noon for all sessions.
Twenty-Fourth Annual Quarterback / Receiver Camp
Session II: July 11 - 13, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
This camp is open to all boys who are entering grades 3 thru 9 in the fall. Only quarterback and receiver techniques and drills will be taught during this three-day session. Blocking and tackling techniques will not be taught during this camp session. All young men who desire to be quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers are encouraged to attend this camp of intense passing and receiving.
Quarterbacks will receive individual instruction in the proper techniques passing a football. They will learn the mechanics of play execution and ball handling techniques, that includes faking, handoffs, and option techniques. Instruction in play calling, field generalship, and development of leadership ability will be emphasized. Coordination of pass offense with receivers and instruction on reading the secondary coverage will be stressed. Play action, drop back (3, 5, 7 step), sprint out, and run and shoot pass techniques will be taught.
Receivers will learn pass route techniques, proper receiving techniques, reading coverage, option routes and pass route terminology. Instruction of a pass offense with a quarterback and development of leadership ability will be covered. Individualized receiving drills will be used to develop good receiving technique. Videotape will be used during some sessions for individual evaluation.
Young men who sign up for the QB/REC camp and session 1 or 2 may do so for a reduced fee of $200 for both weeks. All skill evaluations, blocking, tackling and running techniques will be taught in sessions 1 or 2. The QB/REC camp is a specialty camp only. (We suggest - NOT MANDATORY - that boys 12 or under come to the first session, and that boys 13 and over come to the second.)
Sessions however are open to all age groups.
Boys will be grouped by age, grade, and/or skill level.
