Rockhurst Athletics 2016-17

Cross Country 2016
The XC team won the Class 4 State Championship for the first time in school history.  The Hawklets were led by John Luder '17 (3rd), Danny Toomey '17 (20th), Thomas Seitzer '19 (32nd), Will Oltjen '17 (52nd), Branden Schaff '17 (60th), Andrew Connor '18 (63rd), and Peter Campbell '18 (97th).

Football 2016
The Football Hawklets clawed their way to an impressive 9-3 record and a FInal Four apearance.  Rockhurst's only three losses were to the other three teams in the Final Four - Blue Springs, CBC, and Kirkwood.  Big wins included overtime thrillers over Bentonville (AR) and Park Hill, and cross-town rival Shawnee Mission East.

Soccer 2016
The Soccer team played its way to another phenomenal season, ending with a 26-5 record.  Sadly, the Hawklets came up just short of a State Championship; Rock fell to CBC in a sudden-death shootout in the final, earning 2nd place.  Rockhurst won the Top Dawg Tournament and was ranked #1 in the country for part of the season.

Swim & Dive 2016
The Aquahawks qualified 17 individuals for the State Championship Meet and finished in 9th place.  The team was led by Collin Nill '17, who placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke and set a new school record in the event.

Basketball 2016-17
The Basketball Hawklets made a late-season push to finish with an 11-14 record before falling in District play.  The team graduates four seniors, but will look for the continued development of players like Xavier Rhodes '18, Darrius Hughes '19, Dalen Ridgnal '19, and A.J. White '18.

Wrestling 2016-17
Rockhurst celebrated the culmination of its two best wrestlers in program history - twin brothers Cameron and Colin Valdiviez '17.  They combined for eight State qualifications and three individual State Championships.  In the 2016-17 season, Cameron won the 1266-pound class and Colin was runner-up in the 132-pound class.  Next year the Hawklets will look for other wrestlers to step up, like Dawson Ervie '18.

Baseball 2017
The baseball season ended in the District Championship when the Hawklets lost a defensive struggle 4-2 to Lee's Summit.  The Hawklets finished the season with a winning mark of 16-14.  The team was led by a strong group of seniors - seven of whom have signed to play in college.

Golf 2017
At the State Championship, the Hawklets trailed the leading team by five strokes after the first day of play.  The Rock came storming back on the second and final day and shot a team-low in order to win the State Championship by three strokes.  They were led by Jake Propeck '18, who tied for 2nd overall.  Other team members were Rob Enright '17, Ethan Packel '17, Carson St. Clair '18, and Michael Bessenbacher '20.

Lacrosse 2017
The lacrosse Hawklets worked their way to a perfect regular season in the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City (LAKC), and kept their slate clean through the playoffs - earning the LAKC Championship.  The Rock held off rival Shawnee Mission East in the title game by a score of 10-9.  MVP Honors went to goalie Jake Sullivan '17.

Tennis 2017
The tennis team once again worked its way into the State Championship's Final Four.  The Hawklets fell to eventual champions Columbia Rock Bridge in the semifinals, but the team rebounded and beat Parkway Central to take 3rd Place.  The doubles team of Collin Klumb '18 and Henry Goeke '17 finished in 4th in doubles.

Track & Field 2017
The track & field team qualified two individual events and one relay for State.  Danny Toomey '17 placed 3rd in the 800m run, John Luder '17 placed 4th in the 1600m run, and the 4x800m team of Toomey, Luder, Zach DeLong '17, and Tom Seitzer '19 finished in 11th place.
