Rockhurst Athletics 2015-16

Cross Country 2016
The XC team won the Class 4 State Championship for the first time in school history.  The Hawklets were led by John Luder '17 (3rd), Danny Toomey '17 (20th), Thomas Seitzer '19 (32nd), Will Oltjen '17 (52nd), Branden Schaff '17 (60th), Andrew Connor '18 (63rd), and Peter Campbell '18 (97th).

Football 2016
The Football Hawklets clawed their way to an impressive 9-3 record and a FInal Four apearance.  Rockhurst's only three losses were to the other three teams in the Final Four - Blue Springs, CBC, and Kirkwood.  Big wins included on overtime thrillers over Bentonville (AR) and Park Hill, and cross-town rival Shawnee Mission East.

Soccer 2016
The Soccer team played its way to another phenomenal season, ending with a 26-5 record.  Sadly, the Hawklets came up just short of a State Championship; Rock fell to CBC in a sudden-death shootout in the final, earning 2nd place.  Rockhurst won the Top Dawg Tournament and was ranked #1 in the country for part of the season.

Swim & Dive 2016
The Aquahawks qualified 17 individuals for the State Championship Meet and finished in 9th place.  The team was led by Collin Nill '17, who placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke and set a new school record in the event.

Basketball 2015-16
Several late-game losses were recipe for a final record of 9-18 for the Basketball Hawklets.  The team graduates six seniors, but will look for the continued development of players like Carter Selzer '17, Chris Teahan '17, Xavier Rhodes '18 and Darrius Hughes '19.

Wrestling 2015-16
The Wrestling team proudly celebrated its best year in program history.  Rockhurst had three individual State Champions, just the second, third and fouth in school history.  Twin brothers Cameron (120 lb., pictured right) and Colin Valdiviez '17 (126 lb., pictured left) and Vince Spalitto (285 lb., pictured middle) '16 all battled their way to the top of the podium.  The Valdiviez's both went undefeated on the season - Cameron 49-0 and Colin 52-0, and Spalitto finished 50-2.

Baseball 2016
The baseball season ended in the District Championship when the Hawklets lost a defensive struggle 3-1 to Lee's Summit West.  Rockhurst worked its way to a 22-10 season and went on a 10-1 stretch at one point.  Tyler Benninghoff '16 was drafted in the 11th round of the MLB draft, and six more seniors signed to play collegiate baseball.

Golf 2016
Despite rainy and muddy conditions, the golf team used mental toughness to propel itself to a great second day of the State Championship Tournament and move into 2nd Place and earn runner-up honors.  The Hawklets were led by Rob Enright '17, who finished 5th individually.

Lacrosse 2016
The lacrosse Hawklets worked their way to a perfect regular season in the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City (LAKC).  They toughened their schedule by playing teams from Mississippi, Illinois, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and St. Louis.  The Hawklets lost a heartbreaker to Blue Valley West in overtime in the LAKC semifinals.

Tennis 2016
The tennis team once again worked its way into the State Championship match.  For the sixth time in the last nine years, Rockhurst faced Columbia Rock Bridge in the finals; the Bruins took home the title this time.  The doubles team of Collin Klumb '18 and Justin Nogalski '16 won the Doubles State Championship.

Track & Field 2016
The track & field team won the program's first Sectional Championship since the late-70s.  All four relay teams qualified for State, and three of them earned All-State (top 8) honors.  John Luder '17 placed 6th in the 1600m and Patrick Bowen '16 finished 7th in the 400m.
