Why Play a Sport at Rockhurst?

We are proud of our athletic heritage at Rockhurst. We don't mean this in an arrogant way, but we hope that our student athletes grow from their engagement in a program. To review some basic dates and philosophy of the athletic programs:

Rockhurst Athletics 2017-18

Cross Country 2017
The XC team placed 4th at the State Championship Meet.  For the first time in program history, three Hawklet runners earned All-State honors (placing top-25 individually): Tom Seitzer '19 (5th), Peter Campbell '18 (22nd), and Wes Porter '20 (24th).

Football 2017
The Football Hawklets played through a tough schedule all season and finished with an 8-4 record.  The Rock eventually lost to Park Hill in the State Quarterfinals.  Big wins included Shawnee Mission East and Bentonville (AR).

Soccer 2017
The Soccer team won the 2017 State Championship!  In fact, the Hawklets did not lose a game to a Missouri team all season.  Rockhurst finished its year with an impressive 27-3 record en route to the program's seventh State Title.  The Rock defeated CBC in the Semifinals and Vianney in the Finals.

Swim & Dive 2017
The Aquahawks competed in the State Championship and placed 11th overall as a team.  The 200-yard medlet relay team placed 7th and Dylan Nill '20 placed 6th in the 500-yard freestyle.

Basketball 2017-18
The Basketball Hawklets won the District Championship and made a push just falling short of making the Final Four. They finished with a 22-6 record.  The team graduated five seniors, but will look for the continued development of players like Tyler Nelson '19, Darrius Hughes '19, Dalen Ridgnal '19, Glen McClintock '19 and A.J. White '19.

Wrestling 2017-18
Senior Dawson Ervie highlighted the Wrestling Hawklets' season with a State qualification - his second consecutive year earning a trip to Columbia.

Baseball 2018
The baseball season included a second consecutive District Championship vs. Lee's Summit, and a State Sectional Championship appearance.  The Hawklets finished the season with a winning mark of 20-8.  The team was led by a strong group of seniors - seven of whom will play in college.

Golf 2018
Another strong finish for the Rockhurst golf team as they finished in the top-3 at State for the 17th consecutive season. They were led by strong seniors: Thomas Benninghoff '18, Jake Propek, '18 and Carson St. Clair '18 and complemented by talented underclassmen of All-Stater, Michael Bessenbacher '20 and Liam Coughlin '21.

Lacrosse 2018
The lacrosse Hawklets continued a tradition of making the final four in the LAKC playoff - falling in the semifinals to Pembroke. They finished the season with a 13-7 record.  Brady Guck '18 was selected as an All-American.

Tennis 2018
The most decorated sport in Rockhurst athletics, the tennis team, welcomed a new coach, and returned to the podium with a 2nd place finish at the State Championships. In dual matches, Coach Mark Mills and his Hawklets were 14-1 this season. They were led by a great group of seniors: Graham Colombo '18, Max Dunmire '18, Nicholas Hare '18, and Collin Klumb '18.
