College Counseling Curriculum
Students come to Rockhurst High School expecting to enter college fully prepared and equipped for excellence. Choosing the right college or university — and understanding the institution’s academic, admissions and financial requirements — is something no student should have to undertake by himself.

On Your Side
Rockhurst students and their families can take advantage of comprehensive, ongoing college advising that includes individual and group counseling, testing and test preparation, along with services such as document processing for college admission, scholarships and financial aid.
Every Step of the Way
The College Counseling Office assists students and families throughout the college exploration and application process. Our focus is connecting students with programs and opportunities that fit their academic, personal, spiritual and social needs.
Direct work with students begins first semester junior year and continues throughout senior year, and involves a variety of classroom meetings, college visitors, evening programs and individual guidance. However, the CCO begins working with students and parents freshman year and continues through sophomore year.

Freshman: In mid fall, CCO counselors are in all freshman classes to begin the college processes conversation, reminding students of the importance of their academic work and involvement in the school and community.
Sophomore: CCO counselors meet with all sophomores to jump-start their college search process. Students are also introduced to Naviance, the school’s college search database, and assigned a “Do What You Are” personality profile.
Junior: In-classroom meetings are held in the spring and the Junior Portfolio is assigned, which includes completing the Junior Survey in Naviance, identifying four to five potential college choices, and securing signatures on transcript release waivers.
Senior: During fall individual appointments, CCO counselors review a senior’s college planning process, including his college application list and process, transcript and recommendation requests. Workshops are available for help with the college application and financial aid processes.
