Financial Aid

Rockhurst High School awarded $1.5 million in financial assistance to 350 students for the 2009-10 academic year.  The Financial Aid committee's evaluation takes into account the analysis of a family's need by an independent agency, academic performance, and a student's enthusiasm for a Rockhurst education.

Most financial aid awards include participation in the work grant program.  Through the work grant program, students support the school's need in a variety of ways before or after class, during the summer or over school breaks.  The value of a work grant hour in 2009-2010 is $35.  No student is awarded more than 100 work grant hours.  Unworked hours will be charged to a student's tuition account.

Financial Aid Process

Families are encouraged to apply for financial aid online directly to Financial Aid Independent Review (FAIR) at www.fairapp.com.  The school code for Rockhurst is 120, and the school password is rhs120.  Applications are also available upon request from the Admission and Financial Aid Office.  Financial aid applications for incoming freshmen students are due December 15, 2009.   Timely submission of the financial aid forms is essential.  Late applications may not be processed by the evaluating agency in time for consideration.  Financial aid packets are mailed in late January to all families of returning students who received financial aid in the previous year.

Scholarships

The generosity of others permits Rockhurst to award scholarships to many of our incoming and returning students. With few exceptions, scholarship awards are based upon merit and financial need. Eligibility for a scholarship requires that a family file a financial aid statement with the Office of Admission and Financial Aid.  There is no separate application for scholarships.

Incoming freshmen may also qualify for the President's Scholarship or the Ignatian Scholarship based upon their composite score on the High School Placement Test.  To be eligible for either scholarship, an 8th grader must have

  • a B+ average in his 7th and 8th grade years,
  • received a positive teacher's recommendation,
  • taken the Placement Test at Rockhurst High School.

A President's Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to students who achieve a composite score of 99 percentile on the placement test.

An Ignatian Scholarship of $500 is awarded to students who achieve a score of 98 percentile on the placement test.
