Rockhurst Counseling Department Mission:

The purpose of the Rockhurst Counseling Department is to develop helping relationships with students, parents, teachers, administrators and the community at large. This Jesuit College Preparatory Program embodies the spirit of Ignatian education and vision, which educates the whole person to be individuals of competence, conscience, and compassion. In the spirit of cura personalis, developmentally appropriate efforts of the Counseling Department are primarily directed toward academics with support services in college, career and guidance counseling. These department efforts in turn assist students in their growth in being young men who are open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving and committed to doing justice.

Students are assigned a counselor each year of enrollment at Rockhurst. As students progress from freshmen to senior year, they are assigned the same counselor from year to year. The four year counseling/guidance agenda includes:

  1. Freshmen Year: Counselors help students develop useful study habits and assist them adjust to the demands of a vigorous college preparatory curriculum.
  2. Sophomore Year: Counselors concentrate on a student's growth and the development of interpersonal skills.
  3. Junior Year: Counselors concentrate on developing the students' college plans, career awareness and a sophistication about the world of work.
  4. Senior Year: Students continue to have the services of his counselor available to them. Additionally, the College Placement Counselor specializes in assisting students with the college admissions and financial aid process.
